About Us
Dr Keith Holt and Dr Peter Hales founded Perth Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre in 1988 in order to provide a specialised orthopaedic and medical service to sportsmen and women in Perth.
Returning from the United States of America, Dr Holt brought with him expertise in what were then the new and emerging technologies of arthroscopic and arthroscopically aided reconstructive surgery. Introducing this style of surgery to Perth led to much pioneering work being done in the fields of knee, and along with Dr Peter Hales, shoulder surgery. This included such achievements as performing the first arthroscopically aided ACL and PCL reconstruction, meniscal repair, sub-acromial decompression and shoulder stabilisation in the state, with some of these being first within Australia.
With time, reconstructive arthroscopic surgery developed to include more complex problems of the shoulder, such as arthroscopic surgery for posterior and multi-directional instabilities, repair of SLAP and other labral lesions and so on.
Since that time the centre has grown to incorporate 7 other orthopaedic surgeons, a Rheumatologist and Sports Medicine Physician. They work with several elite sporting teams in Perth, including West Coast Eagles, Fremantle Dockers, Western Force, Perth Glory and the WAIS gymnastic team to mention a few.
The surgeons hold several board positions with Australian Orthopaedic Association and other associations including Australian Knee Society, Past President Australian Hand Surgery and the President of the Shoulder and Elbow Society.
Together they form the Perth Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre which this year is celebrating its 20th Anniversary.
